Job Overview


We are seeking a highly skilled Product Safety Expert to join our team at BAE Systems. As a Senior Engineer - Product Safety, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our products during the design process.



Salary and Benefits

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and report to Daily Stand Up Meetings (DSUM) to ensure seamless project coordination.
  • Design activities including supporting risk reduction/analysis and identification using a systems engineering approach.
  • Work within a centralised modelling tool to support safety product development.
  • Collaborate with a small safety team environment to drive safety outcomes.
  • Support Non-Safety experienced team members to achieve desirable safety outcomes.
  • Prepare safety assessments and Design Safety Justification inputs as required.
  • Provide Safety SME to product design and gate reviews.
  • Maintain a healthy product Safety Culture within the team and wider business.


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Familiarity with UK Defence Standard and publications such as Defence Standard 00-56, Defence Standard 00-55, DSA-01, DSA-02.
  • Knowledge of safety analysis techniques such as (FHA), (FTA), (ETA), (FMEA), and (STPA).
  • STEM degree with Product Safety experience within a regulated industry.
  • Understanding of IEC 61508 and/or IEC 61511 for complex Software and Hardware Safety Instrumented Systems.
