About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious full-time Medical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work closely with our Specialty Doctor and other healthcare professionals to provide senior medical cover on our 12-bed male PICU service, which deals with emergency and crisis admissions.

The post holder will also be the Medical Director at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke, a 71-bed mixed service with complex mental health needs. You will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the care of all ward inpatients, as well as auditing the medical services rendered at the ward to ensure they meet GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide senior medical cover on our 12-bed male PICU service
  • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT
  • Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations of service users
  • Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Participate in ward rounds and clinical audits
  • Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management, and embed clinical governance
  • Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managers hearings, and attend hearings
  • Participate in the 1 in 8 telephone on-call rota
