Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Waste Transfer Station Operative to join our team at Essex County Council.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To oversee the safe and efficient operation of waste transfer facilities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and environmental policies.
  • To manage the loading and transportation of waste, including operating front-loading shovels and 360-degree wheeled materials handlers.
  • To lead on mobile plant operations, including pushing up waste using the loading shovel and loading lorries.
  • To ensure all site users follow site rules and Health and Safety procedures.
  • To perform pre-use inspections of plant and equipment, reporting any defects prior to shift start.
  • To undertake routine cleaning to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • To report any contamination or non-conforming wastes delivered to site, accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental hazards to line managers.

Requirements:

  • A full valid driving licence is required.
  • Previous experience operating plant machinery, preferably within the waste industry, is desirable.
  • Able to work outdoors for long periods and in all weather conditions with appropriate protective clothing/equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.

Estimated Salary: £27,033 per annum.

Location: Colchester.
