Role Overview

GSL Education is currently collaborating with an outstanding secondary school in Newcastle to find an empathetic and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • One-to-One Support: Provide individual support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with their learning and manage their emotions and behaviour.
  • Classroom Assistance: Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons and adapting materials and strategies to meet the needs of SEMH students.
  • Progress Tracking: Monitor and report on the progress of students, identifying areas for improvement and celebrating successes.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement effective behaviour management strategies, promoting positive behaviour and addressing challenging behaviour appropriately.
  • Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and guidance to students, helping them to develop coping strategies and build resilience.
  • Communication: Maintain regular communication with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working alongside students with SEMH needs.
  • Good organisational abilities, strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • An understanding and compassionate approach to helping students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a secondary school environment.
  • An updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service.
