Principal or Registered Clinical Scientist Microbiology

A leading paediatric hospital in the UK is seeking a highly skilled Principal or Registered Clinical Scientist in Microbiology to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in the duty microbiologist rota, reporting specialist investigations, and communicating with clinical teams.

The laboratory is a UKAS ISO15189 accredited facility, and the successful candidate will play an active role in ensuring the department maintains accreditation. The hospital is a leading NIHR paediatric research centre, and the laboratory is involved in numerous clinical trials and research studies.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in a dynamic and supportive environment. The hospital offers a range of training and development opportunities, including support towards professional development and completion of the FRCPath examinations.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Participating in the duty microbiologist rota, including reporting specialist investigations and communicating with clinical teams.
  • Attending regular multidisciplinary team meetings and implementing, developing, and evaluating analytical methods.
  • Providing support to the Biomedical Scientist and other laboratory staff.
  • Ensuring the department maintains UKAS ISO15189 accreditation.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. They will be responsible for communicating with medical staff and other healthcare professionals, and will have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • A first degree in Microbiology or a related subject.
  • Registration as a Clinical Scientist in medical microbiology with the HCPC.
  • Experience in a paediatric microbiology department.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.

The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check, and will be required to submit a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
