About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Specialty Doctor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to join our team at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have a primary base at the new West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, and will also have the opportunity to work at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

Job Summary

The Specialty Doctor will be responsible for working with professional colleagues and managers to ensure the efficient running of services, working closely with other specialist teams, and assisting with service improvements and the development of business plans to inform the future strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities in the Trust
  • Share with colleagues the role of educational or clinical supervisor to junior doctors in training, including induction, supportive formal appraisals, supervision of learning portfolios, and career advice as appropriate
  • Provide bedside and teaching for Junior Doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Participate in a Friday afternoon formal teaching rota based on RCOG curriculum, new guidelines and research
  • Assist in PROMPT course training annually
  • Undertake personal development and mandatory training

Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a firm commitment to the principles of Clinical Governance, including developing and maintaining appropriate systems and practice to ensure effective clinical audit, attending and contributing to the Trust Clinical Governance Programmes, and ensuring that staff within their area of responsibility are aware of the Trust's Risk Management Strategy and that it is implemented.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, with a minimum of four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
