About the Role

Hartwood Healthcare is seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare professionals in their daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake new patient health checks and assessments to identify potential health risks and develop personalized care plans.
  • Support our practice nurses with health promotion programs, including education and awareness campaigns to promote healthy lifestyles and disease prevention.
  • Conduct baseline observations, such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, and record findings accurately.
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, advising patients on their results and providing guidance on healthy blood pressure management.
  • Undertake wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required, working closely with our healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care.
  • Support our practice nurses with the management of chronic disease clinics, including patient education and support.
  • Conduct BMI checks as directed and provide guidance on healthy weight management.
  • Act as a chaperone as required, providing emotional support and reassurance to patients during medical procedures.
  • When trained, undertake venepuncture, administer flu vaccinations, and carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of our practice nurses.
  • Conduct ECGs as requested and ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
  • Ensure that fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance and that clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins are replaced in accordance with our IPC policy.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate, working closely with our healthcare professionals to promote healthy lifestyles and disease prevention.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Participate in practice audit as directed by our audit lead, contributing to the continuous improvement of our healthcare services.
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care, working collaboratively with our healthcare professionals to develop and implement new programs and services.
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the practice, sharing knowledge and best practices to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with our duty rota, ensuring that all clinical areas are secure and ready for the next shift.
