About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join our team at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will play a key role in the advanced assessment, treatment, and clinical management of patients with complex, acute, and chronic presentations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients with complex health and social care needs, using specialist assessment of all aspects of occupational performance.
  • Develop and implement collaborative treatment programmes with patients, carers, and colleagues, demonstrating client-centred reasoning and specialist problem-solving techniques.
  • Implement occupational therapy interventions to enable individuals to achieve their optimum level of independence.
  • Supervise junior staff and assistants, planning their work effectively and delegating tasks where appropriate.
  • Participate in the staff appraisal scheme, appraising and being appraised, and implementing development needs for self and junior staff.
  • Represent Occupational Therapy at senior level, contributing to the overall service development of the team and actively participating in Continuing Professional Development.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Knowledge of occupational therapy principles and practices, including assessment, treatment, and clinical management.
  • Experience of working with patients with complex health and social care needs, including those with acute and chronic presentations.
  • Ability to work autonomously, using clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection, and analysis to support assessment and treatment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff, planning their work effectively and delegating tasks where appropriate.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in occupational therapy or a related field.
  • Experience of working in a leadership or management role, including supervising and mentoring staff.
  • Knowledge of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy 'Professional standards for occupational therapy practice, conduct, and ethics (2021)' and the 'Health Professions Council Regulations'.
