About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Materials Buyer to join our Commercial team in St Albans, responsible for overseeing the purchasing of materials for our award-winning developments in the Eastern region.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, working closely with the Commercial and Construction departments, as well as the Finance and Technical teams.

You will also develop strong relationships with external stakeholders, including material suppliers and consultants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Measure drawings, take off quantities, prepare schedules, estimates, and other working documents.
  • Provide material costs for construction budgets.
  • Source suitable suppliers and issue tender enquiry documents.
  • Negotiate proposed order values and new Regional Supply agreements.

You will be responsible for producing a monthly forecast report for the Board, as well as preparing budgets, schedules, and estimates.

Requirements

We are looking for a commercially astute negotiator with a background in Construction, preferably with experience as a Materials Buyer in residential development.

You should be able to read and understand architect drawings, specification documents, and standard detail drawings.

A construction-related qualification, such as a HNC, and knowledge of Contract law would be desirable.

You must be self-motivated, able to work under pressure, and have the ability to prioritize your workload.

A valid UK driver's license is also required.
