About the Employer:

  • A young adult male who has autistic, epileptic, learning disabilities and is nonverbal.
  • He is noise sensitive, so likes his home environment to be quiet.



Employer Disability and Health Conditions

  • He has epilepsy and seizures can be unpredictable.
  • You and the other carer will be responsible for responding to any seizures with first aid, moving and handling, and administering emergency medication on rare occasions.

  • The individual has allergies - smoking and perfume/aerosol deodorant.

About the Role

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and/or prompt with personal care - toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
  • Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
  • Support and/or prompt the individual to take medication.
  • Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
  • Develop a good and trusting one-to-one working relationship.
  • Support the individual's health, wellbeing, and support needs.
  • Monitor and support when going up/down stairs, walking around the home and garden.
  • PPE is worn, and lateral flows are taken weekly.

Important Requirements

  • Only candidates aged 18 or over should apply, as medication administration is required.
  • The individual's needs may vary from day to day, and tasks may reflect this.
  • You may be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.
  • You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately.
  • You have a duty to report defects and/or hazards that may give rise to an accident.
  • You must ensure the safety of the individual at all times.
  • This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).

Required Skills

  • Be honest, reliable, trustworthy, and punctual.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
  • Be able to work on your own initiative.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Follow instructions accurately.
  • Be patient, supportive, and caring.
  • Have good listening skills and provide non-judgmental emotional support.
  • Be empathetic.
  • Previous caring experience is not essential, but you should have a genuine interest in supporting people with disabilities/illnesses to achieve their goals.
  • Flexibility would be an advantage, as hours may be variable.
  • Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.
  • Must have experience supporting individuals with epilepsy and following care plans.
  • Quick responses are required in case of any seizures.

Required Training

  • Successful candidates are required to undertake any training considered necessary and appropriate to the role.
  • Training will be provided by the employer (Moving and Handling, First Aid, Epilepsy).
