Role Overview">">As our Foundation Scientific Software Engineer - Ocean Forecasting, you will work within the Ocean Forecast Verification team to develop and support tools to assess and monitor the quality and accuracy of our ocean forecasts, and the systems used to verify, post-process and deliver these forecasts to our customers. This role involves developing and technical supporting our ocean post-processing systems, which are used to deliver forecasts to users including the Royal Navy and the RNLI.

Key Responsibilities">">Develop and maintain software applications and tools to support the verification, post-processing, and delivery of ocean forecasts.

Enhance how we visualise our models to assist monitoring and assessment of forecast performance.

Maintain and improve existing software applications and tools to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our customers.

Requirements">">Experience of common scientific programming languages/environments such as Python, Linux, Bash, or similar.

Ability to communicate complex technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What We Offer">">Competitive salary of up to £37,776 annually, including an outstanding Civil Service pension and Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) of £2,200 per annum.

Annual leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years, with the option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave.
