The Role:

The National Haemophilia Database (NHD) is a register of people in the UK with all types of bleeding disorders started in 1969. Its purpose is to study the complete national cohort of patients with these conditions and improve the care of people with bleeding disorders. The database is held within the NHS and managed by the UK Haemophilia Centre Doctors' Organisation (UKHCDO), which is an association of medical practitioners who work within the NHS Haemophilia Centres of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, or Wales and have an interest in the care of people with Haemophilia or other inherited bleeding disorders.

You will work with the UK's best clinical, scientific, and statistical capabilities in this sector. You will collaborate with other team members to advance our exciting data strategy. Due to the onset of new Gene Therapy (GT) trials, we are looking for a dynamic Research Nurse to work alongside the existing team. We collaborate with pharmaceutical companies focused on developing therapies for inherited bleeding disorders. Gene therapy treatment has the potential to deliver a one-time treatment for Haemophilia and a range of other bleeding disorders.

The main objective for this Gene Therapy Research Nurse role is to assist in managing the gene therapy research portfolio of the Haemophilia Gene Therapy studies at the National Haemophilia Database, ensuring that the trials run smoothly for the participants recruited. The post-holder will work with the gene therapy cohort of Haemophilia patients with the Principal Investigator, Gene Therapy Hub, and Haemophilia Centres, ensuring each gene therapy study and information requirements are captured efficiently.

Essential Qualifications:
  • RN1 / RN2 Registered Nurse on the NMC Register
  • Degree in Nursing
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
  • Experience of working as a qualified nurse with previous NHS experience at least as a band 6 for 5 years
  • Relevant experience in an acute care setting or relevant Out-Patient Setting
  • Experience working on clinical trials
  • Experience of effective multidisciplinary team working
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with complex and sensitive situations
  • Awareness of clinical governance and risk management relevant to the role
  • Ability to coordinate and organize activities to deliver study Protocol
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to develop case report forms
  • Ability to collate and interpret patient data from multiple sites
  • IT literate
  • Self-directed
  • Willingness and ability to travel to external meetings within the context of this post
  • Ability to maintain prolonged periods of concentration when cross-referencing medical case notes and completing research data entry
