About the Position:
The Department of Biology at Virginia State University is seeking a highly qualified Assistant/Associate Professor of Genetics to join our team in August 2024. This is a nine-month tenure-track position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have teaching experience and research/postdoctoral background in genetics. They will be expected to teach introductory genetics lectures and laboratories, and develop upper division and/or graduate courses tailored to their specific area of expertise. The standard teaching load is 12 semester hours per semester.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing student advisement, participating in scholarly research, and serving on departmental, school, and university committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in Genetics or a related field and teaching experience. They will also have a commitment to undergraduate teaching and developing a research program involving undergraduate and M.S. graduate students in research.
The successful applicant will have the potential to establish an externally funded research program in their area of expertise that will include undergraduate and M.S. graduate students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five years' experience teaching at a higher education institution is preferred but not required.
