About the Position:

The Department of Biology at Virginia State University is seeking a highly qualified Assistant/Associate Professor of Genetics to join our team in August 2024. This is a nine-month tenure-track position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have teaching experience and research/postdoctoral background in genetics. They will be expected to teach introductory genetics lectures, laboratories, and develop upper division and/or graduate courses tailored to their specific area of expertise. The standard teaching load is 12 semester hours per semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Entry:

  • Teaching experience is required.
  • A commitment to undergraduate teaching and developing a research program involving undergraduate and M.S. graduate students is required.
  • The successful applicant will have the potential to or demonstrated ability to establish an externally funded research program in their area of expertise that will include undergraduate and M.S. graduate students.
  • Ph.D. in Genetics or related field required by the start of employment.

Additional Considerations:

Preferred, not Required:

  • Five (5) years' experience teaching at a higher education institution.
