Job Title: Benefits and Housing Needs Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Benefits and Housing Needs Officer to join our team at Triumph Consultants Ltd.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing applications for Housing/Council Tax Benefit and renewal of ongoing cases, processing those applications utilizing Ealing's Information Technology Systems in accordance with the Benefit Regulations and relevant discretion within the Council's policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess applications for Housing/Council Tax Benefit and renewal of ongoing cases.
  • Process applications utilizing Ealing's Information Technology Systems.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Benefits legislation.
  • Obtain additional information to determine claims.
  • Keep accurate records of all claims made and regularly update information received.
  • Plan work routine subject to management's priorities.
  • Provide service to the public on a rota/appointment basis.
  • Acquire and retain comprehensive knowledge of the Benefits, Image, and processing systems.
  • Calculate entitlement to Benefits and effect payment as required.
  • Acquire extensive knowledge of Welfare Benefits and services provided by Government Agencies and the voluntary sector.
  • Compose and draft detailed letters in response to inquiries.
  • Use the payment/reconciliation system to obtain information on missing payments.
  • Identify possible fraudulent claims and refer to the Investigation Team for action.

Requirements:

  • Level of education that indicates a good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Current iworld/northgate system knowledge.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of assessing housing benefits/council tax reduction claims within the last 3 months.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of wider Welfare Benefits legislation and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of Word and Excel and the ability to learn computer systems required for carrying out duties of a Housing Benefit Officer.
  • Experience in working within a benefits environment with experience of assessing benefit entitlement.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good analytical skills to examine case files and make decisions impartially.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively in various ways with customers, council staff, and external agencies.
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team when required.
  • Able to organize and carry out work in accordance with procedures and changing priorities.

Working Hours: 35 hours, Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Duration: This opening assignment is for 3 months

Location: EALING, LONDON

Basic DBS disclosure required

Hybrid role: current requirement once a month in the office.
