About the Role

The Commonwealth of Virginia invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Center for Materials Research (CMR). This internationally recognized research center focuses on photonics, quantum-electronics, and magnetic materials and devices. As a leading expert in the field, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of materials science and engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the CMR in developing new initiatives, center-wide proposals, and partnerships with academia, government, and industry.
  • Have experience with leading and managing multi-investigator grants, centers, or academic programs.
  • Report to the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, have a faculty appointment within one of the academic departments, and teach and conduct research.
Requirements
  • An earned doctorate degree in Engineering or the Physical Sciences.
  • Demonstrated scholarship commensurate with a full professor.
  • Extensive record of scholarly achievements and publications.
  • Substantial experience obtaining grants and/or contracts.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing research relationships and partnerships.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Possesses excellent communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Considerable experience managing faculty, staff, budget, and other resources.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work closely and productively with team members.
Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per yearAbout Us
