Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of UK Head of Operational Resilience. This position will play a critical role in ensuring the operational resilience of our UK Asset Servicing legal entities. The successful candidate will work closely with senior executives to implement and maintain standards, ensuring compliance with UK regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate with legal entity Important Business Services (IBS) owners across all UK Asset Servicing legal entities to ensure operational resilience.
  2. Designate a UK Certificated Person responsible for overseeing operational resiliency systems and controls on behalf of the Head of Branch / CEO for The Northern Trust Company London Branch, Northern Trust Global Services UK Branch, Northern Trust Investor Services Limited, and Northern Trust Securities LLP.
  3. Participate in the UK Operational Resilience and Outsourcing Committee (UK OROC) working group and attend UK OROC meetings.
  4. Maintain oversight of the Business Services Lifecycle in accordance with the Corporate Operational Resilience Policy and Standard for relevant UK legal entities, including coordinating the identification/assessment of Business Services, confirming IBS, and coordinating value chain and independency analysis.
  5. Facilitate the approval of IBS and impact tolerances by the IBS owner and Head of Branch / CEO at legal entity level.
  6. Prepare and support the facilitation of governance to enable senior management to steer the decision of relevant UK legal entities towards continuous strengthening of resilience.
  7. Coordinate and produce baseline legal entity operational resiliency metrics, produce legal entity reporting, and coordinate aggregation and presentation of legal entity key risks and escalations to relevant stakeholders and governance forums.
  8. Maintain self-assessment documentation for each legal entity, including overseeing the completion of specific sections by the different IBS owners / business functions.
  9. Engage with Heads of Branch / CEO and IBS owners to promote consistent setting of resiliency risk appetite by legal entities.
  10. Perform and document assessments of risk acceptances and exceptions, and obtain approval from relevant senior executives and risk governance forums for any deviation from the requirements of operational resilience policies.
  11. Participate in lessons learned from internal and external events, consultations, or regulatory changes that may require a reassessment of relevant UK legal entity resilience set-up.
  12. Support and promote a resiliency culture within relevant UK legal entities, including engaging in the development of training on operational resilience.
  13. Support client engagement and due diligence requests in relation to UK Asset Servicing legal entity IBS.
Requirements

We are seeking an experienced professional with a strong background in risk, resiliency, or operational control environments. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to direct virtual teams of senior stakeholders to successful outcomes.
  • A pragmatic, logical, and rigorous approach.
  • Proven track-record in presenting to senior management with excellent written and oral presentation abilities.
  • Knowledge of operational resiliency, including disaster/business recovery, business continuity management, 3rd party vendor/outsourcing, corporate risk policies, and standards.
  • A good understanding of risk management practices and how they apply in Financial Services organisations, including the impact of regulation on operational resiliency matters.
  • Analytical skills, including the ability to present ideas clearly to others and to identify and escalate issues of concern to management, as appropriate.
  • The ability to drive to execution.
  • Self-motivation, curiosity, and the ability to work autonomously.
