Role / Department

Operational Resilience is a critical area of focus for Northern Trust, and we are seeking a skilled professional to oversee the implementation of operational resilience requirements across our UK Asset Servicing legal entities.

The UK Head of Operational Resilience will work closely with senior executives to ensure that we meet UK regulatory requirements and maintain the highest standards of operational resilience. This role will serve as the interface with the Asset Servicing Resiliency Office, helping to ensure that the global framework is delivered locally.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate with legal entity Important Business Services (IBS) owners across all UK Asset Servicing legal entities to ensure seamless operations.
  2. Designate a UK Certificated Person responsible for overseeing the firm's operational resiliency systems and controls on behalf of the Head of Branch / CEO for The Northern Trust Company London Branch, Northern Trust Global Services UK Branch, Northern Trust Investor Services Limited, and Northern Trust Securities LLP.
  3. Participate in the UK Operational Resilience and Outsourcing Committee (UK OROC) working group and attend UK OROC meetings as a standing member.
  4. Maintain oversight of the Business Services Lifecycle in accordance with the Corporate Operational Resilience Policy and Standard for relevant UK legal entities, including coordinating the identification/assessment of Business Services, confirming IBS, and coordinating value chain and independency analysis.
  5. Facilitate the approval of IBS and impact tolerances by the IBS owner and Head of Branch / CEO at legal entity level.
  6. Prepare and support the facilitation of governance to enable senior management to steer the decision of relevant UK legal entities towards continuous strengthening of resilience.
  7. Coordinate and produce baseline legal entity operational resiliency metrics with IBS owners, Asset Servicing & Technology Resiliency Offices, and Risk partners.
  8. Maintain the self-assessment documentation for each legal entity, including overseeing the completion of specific sections by the different IBS owners / business functions.
  9. Engage with Heads of Branch / CEO and IBS owners to promote consistent setting of resiliency risk appetite by legal entities.
  10. Perform and document assessments of risk acceptances and exceptions, and obtain approval from relevant senior executives and risk governance forums for any deviation from the requirements of operational resilience policies.
  11. Participate in lessons learned from internal and external events, consultations, or regulatory changes that may require a reassessment of relevant UK legal entity resilience set-up.
  12. Support and promote a resiliency culture within relevant UK legal entities, including engaging in the development of training on operational resilience.
  13. Support client engagement and due diligence requests in relation to UK Asset Servicing legal entity IBS.
