Job Title: Solution Architect - 6 Months

Department: Technology & Solutions

Job Brief:

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to lead the design, development, and implementation of a new Point of Sales (POS) solution across the UK. This role is critical for ensuring the successful transition and modernisation of our retail systems, requiring deep knowledge of Retail technology and proven experience with POS integration and implementations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Architecture Design: Design, modify, and validate the technical architecture for the POS system replacement.
  • Ensure architecture aligns with business goals and strategic direction.
  • Create high-level system designs, including data integration strategies and deployment architecture.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work closely with regional and global stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall business and technical objectives.
  • Regularly communicate progress, challenges, and solutions with key stakeholders.
  • Provide updates to stakeholders on the progress of product development, including timelines, costs, and budgets.
  • Development Team Guidance: Supervise and provide technical guidance to development teams, ensuring that technical decisions align with architectural standards.
  • Oversee and review the work of technical teams to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Technology Assessment & Research: Stay up-to-date with current and emerging retail technologies and propose changes where applicable.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms, and frameworks that best fit the project requirements.
  • Risk & Issue Management: Identify potential technical issues with the current solutions being implemented and propose timely solutions.
  • Assess and mitigate risks, ensuring the architecture meets both functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Business Impact Analysis: Analyze the business impact of different technical choices and ensure that architectural decisions align with business goals.
  • Manage the balance between innovation, risk, cost, and technical complexity.

Key Requirements & Skills:

  • Proven Experience: Extensive experience as a Solution Architect or in a similar role, particularly within the Retail technology domain.
  • Hands-on experience with Point of Sale (POS) systems, Omni-channel retail solutions, payment gateways, or CRM/Clienteling projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of coding languages, ideally across multiple platforms (e.g., Java, .NET, Python).
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, iOS) and databases (SQL, NoSQL, etc.).
  • Experience with SaaS platforms and cloud infrastructure such as Azure or AWS.
  • Proficiency with integration tools like Kafka, Jenkins, Spinnaker.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Additional Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of iOS applications and mobile payment solutions.
  • Experience in working with global teams in multi-cultural environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management tools.
