Job Title: Construction Teacher for SEMH Provision

Location: Manchester

We are seeking a qualified Construction Teacher to join our dynamic team at an innovative secondary school in Manchester. This school provides alternative provision for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess Construction lessons that meet the needs of SEMH students, ensuring lessons are hands-on, inclusive, and accessible.
  • Support students in acquiring essential construction skills, such as carpentry, bricklaying, and basic electrical work, leading to relevant qualifications.
  • Create a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment where students can engage with practical learning.
  • Work closely with other staff, including pastoral teams and learning support assistants, to develop personalised education plans (PEPs).
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, using trauma-informed approaches to support students with SEMH needs.
  • Contribute to wider school initiatives and support students' social, emotional, and mental development.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant vocational qualifications in Construction (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQs).
  • Experience or a strong interest in working with SEMH students in an alternative provision setting.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements in a workshop setting, ensuring the safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, fostering trust and mutual respect.
  • Strong classroom management skills with an understanding of how to support students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • A commitment to professional development and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Experience in delivering construction-related qualifications at Key Stage 4.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practices and experience working in an SEMH environment.
  • First Aid and relevant safeguarding training.
