Accounts Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Assistant to join our finance team in Lancaster. As an Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing VAT returns, and handling CIS monthly returns.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Posting accruals and prepayments
  • Preparing VAT Returns and ensuring compliance with VAT rules and regulations
  • Handling CIS monthly returns and processing subcontractor payments
  • Using Excel for various accounting tasks and data analysis
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end financial processes
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Supporting the finance team with ad-hoc tasks
  • Managing the preparation and bank payments of monthly purchase ledger run
  • Conducting bank reconciliations
  • Supporting payroll processing and cost allocations
  • Generating sales invoices
  • Analysing credit and debit card transactions
  • Managing cash flow
Requirements:
  • Proficiency in SAGE and Excel
  • Strong understanding of VAT rules and regulations
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement
  • Previous experience in an accounting or financial role is essential
