Assistant Head of School

At In Toto Ed LTD, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Head of School to join our leadership team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving improvements in pupil behaviour, attendance, and personal development, while upholding the school's vision and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of School and Senior Leadership Team in the day-to-day management of the school
- Assist the Head of School in establishing a clear vision for the future of the school, demonstrating inspirational leadership and creativity
- Communicate the school's vision compellingly and support the Head of School's strategic leadership priorities
- Lead by example, focusing on providing an excellent education for all students
- Play a leading role in the school improvement planning process, taking account of the agreed priorities of the school and how these link with national and local initiatives
- Lead on particular whole-school strategies and policy areas
- Build positive relationships with all members of the school community
- Keep up to date with innovations and developments in education
- Contribute to the self-evaluation of the school
- Seek training and continuing professional development to meet own needs
Behaviour and Attitudes of Students:
- Ensure that students behave with consistently high levels of respect for others
- Create a school environment in which commonalities are identified and celebrated, difference is valued and nurtured, and bullying, harassment, and violence are never tolerated
- Promote positive attitudes and a commitment to education, ensuring that students are highly motivated and persistent in the face of difficulties, and make a highly positive, tangible contribution to the life of the school and/or the wider community
- Create an environment where students behave consistently well, demonstrating high levels of self-control and consistently positive attitudes to their education
Attendance and Punctuality:
- Ensure high rates of attendance, and ensure that students come to school on time and are punctual; take appropriate, swift, and effective action when this is not the case
- Monitor and analyse the attendance patterns of different groups
- Set clear and effective behaviour and attendance policies with defined consequences that are applied consistently and fairly
Personal Development of Students:
- Create an environment that develops and deepens students' understanding of the fundamental British values
- Develop students' character, which is defined as a set of positive personal traits, dispositions, and virtues that inform their motivation and guide their conduct so that they reflect wisely, learn eagerly, behave with integrity, and cooperate consistently well with others
- Provide a curriculum and resources that develop students' age-appropriate understanding of healthy relationships through appropriate relationship and sex education
- Promote and monitor the school's provision for developing students' spiritual, moral, social, and cultural capital
- Coordinate the range, quality, and take-up of extra-curricular activities offered by the school
General Responsibilities:
- Deputise for the Head of School in their absence (where necessary)
- Maintain a high profile and visible presence around school
- Support a broad range of out-of-hours activities and events
- Undertake any other reasonable duties necessary to ensure the smooth running of the school
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with all members of the school community
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and students
- Thorough understanding of special education and a commitment to providing an inclusive, nurturing, and enriching environment for all students
- Proven track record of driving improvements in pupil behaviour, attendance, and personal development
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to stay up to date with innovations and developments in education
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to support the needs of all students
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, with the ability to use evidence to inform practice
Safeguarding:
The Assistant Head of School will be responsible for promoting the safety and well-being of all students at In Toto Ed LTD. This will include:
- Ensuring that the school's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures are effectively implemented
- Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to identify and support students who may be at risk of harm
- Promoting a culture of vigilance and a safe environment where students feel secure and able to discuss any concerns they may have
- Providing training and support to staff on safeguarding and child protection matters
- Liaising with external agencies, such as social services and the police, to ensure that appropriate support is in place for vulnerable students
- Monitoring the effectiveness of the school's safeguarding practices and making improvements where necessary
The Assistant Head of School will be expected to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and to uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.
