Job Description

The process engineer plays a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining manufacturing processes for connectors realization. This involves monitoring product assembly, assessing processes, taking measurements, analyzing data, and testing manufacturing methods in compliance with lean concepts. The engineer is responsible for implementing manufacturing processes received from manufacturing engineers and optimizing existing processes in the plants. This requires knowledge of operational review, process review, fabrication methods, tooling, and materials, as well as soliciting observations from operators and other engineers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop and optimize series production in the plant and in external manufacturing sites.
  2. Test and validate process tooling.
  3. Review and develop working instructions, workmanship standards, and process documents, and ensure they are followed in both plants and external manufacturing sites.
  4. Review, update, and make corrections on routings and production ERP technical data, providing support to the ERP team on manufacturing data management.
  5. Validate manufacturing cycles and processes for NPIs collaborating with manufacturing engineers.
  6. Support new product prototype development and low-rate initial production.
  7. Attend operational reviews through different new product development stages (P-FMEA).
  8. Work on product transfers to other manufacturing sites.
  9. Organize, implement, and maintain production process flow of the Smiths Interconnect Italian Site.
  10. Liaise with production planners and internal technical services to ensure that released products have adequate BOM, routings, and process documentation.
  11. Raise and process ECN requests.
  12. Provide manufacturing data, such as production control charts, process capability, and other KPIs, to improve the process and measure progress to target.
  13. Implement lean, continuous improvement, kaizen, 6S, and site standardization as defined by global operation management.
  14. Identify ways to reduce production costs through recommendations like new process equipment proposals, equipment justification to improve performance, and Capex requests.
  15. Provide proposals, drive, and monitor VIP initiatives related to process optimization against targets.
  16. Develop standard procedures to improve manufacturing processes and reduce overall cost.
  17. Contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment, including following appropriate HSE procedures and performing risk assessments as appropriate, safety assessments.
  18. Be a promoter of a culture of lean and continuous improvement in work processes.
  19. Be one of the drivers of change in process implementation.
  20. Maintain Process/Manufacturing engineering tooling and routings databases.
  21. Deliver technical training to operators.
  22. Support internal/external audits for process analysis.
