Hull, Kingston upon Hull, United Kingdom Hull City Council Full time

At Hull City Council, we are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated individual to fill the role of Practice Lead focusing on Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). This exciting opportunity allows you to be part of the inception and development of our new team, driving forward best practice for DOLS and MCA.

The successful candidate will support the DoLs Operational Team Manager in delivering statutory functions and provide day-to-day management of the Deprivation of Liberty process, ensuring legal responsibilities are met.

This is an excellent chance to work with a supportive, friendly, and caring team where you will be valued, receive regular supervision, and have opportunities to expand your skills and knowledge.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • A strong value base that informs human rights-based approaches with adults;
  • A recognition that individuals are experts in their own lives;
  • A relentless commitment to quality and best practice;
  • A capacity for honest, critical reflection and openness to learning;
  • Ability to establish professional, effective working relationships with partners, colleagues, adults, families, and carers.

This role requires an experienced practitioner who can champion the implementation of MCA/DoLS policies and procedures, ensuring local managing authorities and the workforce are equipped to identify unlawful Deprivations of Liberty. The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of legislation and the ability to relate it to person-centred practice.

You will need to supervise and support the Best Interest assessor, provide advice, guidance, and mentorship to ensure the correct application of the MCA and DoLs process protects individuals' Article 5 right to liberty and security and Article 8 right to respect for private and family life.

We estimate this role comes with a salary of £43,692 - £52,698 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits such as pension scheme, holiday entitlement, and career development opportunities.
