Marks and Spencer is seeking an experienced Data Platform Architect Lead to drive the evolution of our cloud-hosted data platform on Azure. This role sits within the M&S Data Architecture & Design team, where we are enhancing our data capabilities to address business problems, improve the customer experience, and drive commercial value.

We are looking for a highly skilled architect who will work closely with internal partners to understand, own the road map, and prioritise key platform capabilities. The successful candidate will maintain our data capability framework, lead the safe evolution of our technical architecture, and provide implementation guidance to our Infrastructure team.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of data engineering and governance standard processes and methodologies, as well as knowledge of enterprise application development and software engineering. Experience with DevOps and CICD using tools like GIT, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins is a plus. Additionally, a solid understanding of machine learning practices and technologies would be beneficial.

This role will be pivotal in ensuring our data platform evolves to capitalise on new technology opportunities and meet the evolving needs of all business areas at M&S. You will be part of a collaborative Data Technology team and work with owners of our Data Governance and Data Analytics functions, as well as with colleagues in the wider architecture community.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include owning, driving, and promoting the data platform road map, providing a structured approach to gathering and prioritising key capabilities, and working with stakeholders to understand their needs and help them specify capabilities and evaluation criteria.

In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £80,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on experience, as well as a range of benefits including 20% colleague discount across all M&S products, discretionary bonus schemes, a generous pension scheme, and access to a wide range of training programmes.
