About the Position

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Engineering Department, you will be responsible for providing technical support in the management and operation of Optical Engineering laboratories, maintenance of Electrical and Electronics Engineering laboratories, and technical support to faculty in the use of technology for instructional delivery or office activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and operate Optical Engineering laboratories, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Maintain Electrical and Electronics Engineering laboratories, performing routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Provide technical support to faculty, assisting with the use of technology for instructional delivery or office activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement new technologies and systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Optical and Electrical Engineering, applying this knowledge to improve laboratory operations and technical support.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in laboratory management and technical support.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and laboratory equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with optoelectronic components and systems, semiconductor fabrication tools, or academic laboratory equipment.
  • Direct experience in laboratory management and technical support.
