About the Position
The Commonwealth of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Optical Engineering at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This is an exciting opportunity to join a cohesive faculty group in Optical and Electrical Engineering and contribute to the management and oversight of research and education program offerings for undergraduate and graduate students.
Responsibilities
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in optical engineering, photonics, and related areas
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
- Participate in departmental activities related to the future growth and direction of the Engineering Department programs
- Manage a faculty-directed research effort in support of the technical objectives for the Engineering Department
About the Department
The Engineering Department at the Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to providing a rich and diverse learning environment for undergraduate and graduate students. Our faculty members are engaged in cutting-edge research in areas such as quantum science, mixed- and augmented reality, photonic systems and devices, and space science.
Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- Ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Optical Engineering curriculum
- Publication record and potential for successful grantsmanship
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to design and/or teach graduate and undergraduate courses in quantum optics, Fourier optics, optical materials, modeling for optical systems, bio-optics, nanophotonics, quantum science, augmented and virtual reality, or integrated photonic systems
- Industrial or collegiate cleanroom operation or usage
