Job Title: Director of Tax

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Tax to join our team at Selfridges. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of VAT/GST and other ITX return filings, as well as managing indirect tax compliance requirements for our UK business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Review and validate source data to ensure accuracy and identify anomalies.
  2. Prepare and submit VAT/GST and other ITX regime filings, including digital reporting and online regimes.
  3. Assist with Tax Authorities enquiries and support internal tax governance.
  4. Perform account reconciliations and journal preparation.
  5. Assist with cash-flow modelling and import VAT recovery/validation and duty cost exposure.
  6. Enhance controls and support governance framework.
  7. Review and update processes to support compliance and timetables.
  8. Provide support for and liaise with tax, finance, and supply chain teams.
  9. Run data analytics analysis to identify improvements.

Requirements:

  1. Experience as a Tax compliance analyst with ITX or accounting background and some ITX experience.
  2. Technical skills with accounting qualification or relevant experience; account reconciliation essential.
  3. Knowledge of direct tax regimes, such as employment taxes, an advantage.
  4. Good IT skills with ability to request, download, and analyze data required for tax submissions.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Self-motivated with ability to work independently to high standard and manage workload to meet deadlines.
  7. Adaptable with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  8. Process driven with ability to follow established processes and identify enhancements.
  9. Personable with ability to influence and gain trust and respect of people at all levels.
