Countryside Portfolio Leader

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Countryside Portfolio Leader to join our team at The National Trust. As a key member of our portfolio leadership team, you will play a strategic role in shaping the future of our countryside operations. Your expertise in nature conservation, common land, and public land management will be instrumental in delivering our vision for a sustainable future.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead a diverse team of countryside professionals and work closely with the Property Operations Manager to set and deliver plans to protect and enhance the conservation of our properties. You will be responsible for planning and operational day-to-day delivery for land, outdoors, and nature on our properties. You will work alongside key staff from other properties and professional advisors across the region to help shape and deliver our exciting nature conservation strategy to 2025 and beyond. You will also work with a wide variety of external collaborators to deliver your work and enable a broad range of visitors to have outstanding and inspirational experiences through the quality of our welcome and the effectiveness of our conservation work.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of nature conservation, common land, and public land management/land use change. You will need project and budget management skills, the ability to lead a diverse team, and demonstrate where you've delivered change and results. Effective negotiating, influencing, and communication skills are essential, as well as strong partnership working and the ability to demonstrate resilience. Outstanding service, engagement, and people skills are also required, along with a desire to make a difference and work towards a sustainable future.

What We Offer

The National Trust has the motto 'For everyone, for ever' at its heart. We're working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It's important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we're for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too. As a member of our team, you will enjoy a range of benefits, including a substantial pension scheme, free entry to National Trust places, and a rental deposit loan scheme. You will also have access to a range of perks at work, including gym memberships, shopping discount codes, and cinema discounts. Flexible working is also available, whenever possible, and you will have access to an employee assistance programme and free parking at most Trust places.
