Job Overview

OBM People is seeking an experienced Assistant Operations Manager to join our team at Teesworks, Middlesborough. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of operational services and driving performance improvements to achieve business targets.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in operations management, with experience in leading teams and implementing process improvements. You will be responsible for coordinating with the Harbour Master to ensure smooth vessel operations, and will work closely with the Operations Manager to develop and implement business plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the efficient operation of the South Bank Quay (SBQ) Operations Control Centre (OCC) to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Provide operational support to the Operations Manager, including coordinating arrival and departure notifications for SBQ vessels.
  • Implement safe working practices in line with HSSEQ guidelines and legislation, and work with the HSSEQ department to improve safety and environmental performance.
  • Develop and implement metrics to measure performance and drive improvement.
  • Support the Operations Manager in leading and managing individual and team performance and development.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, cost reductions, and cost efficiency savings.
  • Report significant breaches of policy and/or regulation to the Operations Manager or appropriate person.
  • Ensure Supervisors are fully trained to fulfil their operational activities and responsibilities.
  • Support the Operations Manager/General Manager with the management of Teesworks P&L.
  • Financial planning and budgetary control, inventory control, and disposal cost effectiveness.
  • Business case cost planning preparation and assist in development and execution of business plans with a primary focus on profit growth.

Requirements:

  • Degree or experience relevant to the role.
  • UK Driving Licence.
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Customer focused and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships, both internal and external.
  • Accustomed to working effectively in a fast-paced environment, flexible and can adapt to changing workloads and priorities, where high standards are not compromised under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and in writing.
  • Ability to work stand-alone, demonstrating initiative and ownership, while a positive contributor to the wider team.
  • Computer literate with well-developed IT skills across the Microsoft suite and a practical understanding of data entry and reporting applications.
  • Good understanding of H&S Legislation.
