Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Water Quality Specialist to join our team at Cambridge Water. In this critical role, you will be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks from catchment to consumer, ensuring the quality of our drinking water.

About the Role

This role involves a combination of field-based and desk-based activities, requiring you to apply source pathway receptor principles to produce risk assessments for land use activities in our catchments. You will also identify key sources of risk to our drinking water quality and work with the wider business to develop mitigation actions and plans.

As a Water Quality Specialist, you will work closely with operational teams to ensure effective reviews, audits, and updates of Drinking Water Safety Plans. You will also engage with landowners and other stakeholders in the catchment to develop schemes to protect water quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply source pathway receptor principles to produce risk assessments for land use activities in our catchments
  • Identify key sources of risk to our drinking water quality and work with the wider business to identify mitigation actions required and develop an associated plan
  • Help produce reports on our catchment management activities, including input into drinking water safety plans (DWSPs)
  • Collect in-catchment water quality samples and manage hydrometric data
  • Collate, analyse, and interpret monitoring data to accurately determine sources of pollution
Requirements
  • Due to being across multiple locations, a full UK driving license is required
  • Knowledge of risk assessment processes
  • Familiarity with Water Quality Regulation
  • Understanding of water pollution pathways and source protection measures (desirable)
  • Understanding of practical application of water treatment processes (desirable)
  • Understanding of water network operations (desirable)
  • Able to competently use Arc GIS mapping systems
