Lead Project Manager

People Group is seeking a highly skilled Lead Project Manager to join our Programme Management Office (PMO) team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic advice to the Capital Works team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the PMO delivery of Capital Works projects, ensuring effective and efficient operation in line with DfT contractual arrangements and NEC4 requirements.
  • Deputise for the Head of PMO as required, providing specialist advice and guidance on Capital Works Governance and processes.
  • Implement commercial best practices to maximise value and minimise risk and cost to WMT.
  • Support the Head of PMO with governance management of the DfT, ensuring compliance with National Rail Contract requirements.
  • Work with the senior commercial team to deliver projects within contract requirements and agreed Key Milestones.
  • Support the WMT finance team on cost and commercial matters, ensuring robust and accurate forecasting and Annual Business Plans.
  • Ensure Capital Works project Anticipated Final Costs are robust and based on solid assumptions, with effective risk management.
  • Jointly manage commercial risks with the Head of Commercial Finance, ensuring effective communication and reporting to WMT's governance and DfT requirements.
  • Coach and develop the WMT PMO team to embed commercial processes and Governance at all levels.
  • Lead the commercial risk management process, ensuring WMT's commercial risks are managed and communicated effectively.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong Infrastructure background, ideally with experience in both client and contractor roles within the infrastructure industry.
  • Knowledge and commercial awareness of multiple construction contract types.
  • Knowledge of core Project Controls disciplines, including Schedule Management, Change Management, and Risk Management.
  • Degree educated or similar in Project Management, Construction Management, or Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering.
  • Extensive experience of using project management scheduling tools and techniques, including Primavera P6.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Microsoft Project and Excel.
  • Ability to set strategy and lead a team to a positive outcome for the business.
  • Ability to build relationships and lead teams across multiple functions.
