About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Editorial Lawyer to join our team at News UK. As an Editorial Lawyer, you will provide expert advice on media law and content regulation to our editorial teams across The Sun, Sun on Sunday, and Sun Online.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice on media law and content regulation to ensure compliance with current legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • Advise on pre-publication issues, including libel, privacy, contempt, copyright, data protection, and reporting restrictions.
  • Manage complaints and post-publication matters, exercising sound professional judgment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work with the legal team to identify and discuss significant issues, reporting to the head of department.
Requirements
  • Solicitor or barrister with post-qualification experience in media law or litigation.
  • Experience advising on pre-publication issues, including libel, privacy, contempt, copyright, data protection, and reporting restrictions.
  • Strong interest in free speech issues, public interest, and investigative journalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain and present problems/issues to others and contribute to their resolution.
  • Ability to interact positively at all levels as part of a legal department, reporting to the head of department.
  • Ability to work well unsupervised, demonstrating initiative and the ability to be proactive, while also being able to follow instructions and provide support to the legal team and head of department.
