Job Summary

Manage design and construction activities for allocated projects as part of the signalling team for Scotland's Railway. Implement cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible approaches to design, construction, commissioning, and technical activities. Engineer projects to Network Rail standards, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

  1. Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to achieve a cost-effective and high-quality approach to design, construction, commissioning, and other technical activities.
  2. Engineer projects to the standards and specifications of Network Rail, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  3. Manage engineering activities to result in schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements safely and responsibly.
  4. Maintain relevant techniques and procedures of risk assessment and HAZOP analysis for allocated projects.
  5. Monitor design and specialist consultants and contractors.
  6. Provide project management advice on signalling construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision.
  7. Ensure internal and contractor's design/construction/specialists personnel are competent.
  8. Conduct reviews of design and/or construction activities and arrange audits of contractors.
  9. Carry out the duties of designated project engineer (DPE) for specific projects.
  10. Identify and share best practices across various project teams.
Requirements

  1. Relevant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi-discipline areas.
  2. Knowledge of quality assurance.
  3. CDM, risk assessment, engineering management competency.
  4. Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects.
  5. An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works.
  6. Project safety management experience.
