About the Position:

This is a full-time, 12-month position that requires working on campus 40 hours per week. The successful candidate will assist with laboratory education support services for all science-based disciplines, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage laboratory space, including organization, setup, cleanup, and inventory management.
  • Procure and prepare materials, reagents, and specimens for classes, ensuring timely delivery and adequate supply.
  • Assist teaching assistants, faculty, and students in the laboratory courses, providing supervision and instruction as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, including lab setup documentation and safety inspections.
  • Ensure the functionality of laboratory equipment and perform maintenance, repair, and calibration as required.
  • Supervise student lab support staff and provide guidance on proper procedures and protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or anatomy and physiology, or related field, and at least 2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Master's degree or background in biology or chemistry, plus 2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, is preferred.
  • Proven laboratory techniques, knowledge of chemical handling, storage, and hazardous waste disposal, and general knowledge of laboratory safety practices and University of Minnesota rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, with diverse backgrounds, ages, educations, and socioeconomic statuses.

Work Location and Hours:

The successful candidate will work on campus, Monday through Friday, with regular work hours depending on class schedules for the semester, not exceeding eight (8) hours per day during the hours of 7:00am - 6:00pm, except during occasional opportunities for troubleshooting.
