Job Overview

The pharmacy team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist in Pain and Palliative Care as a fixed-term part-time contract as maternity leave cover. This role forms part of our progress towards advanced level of practice for pharmacists.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Lead, deliver, and evaluate clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services across the specialist pain and palliative care teams.
  • Ensure optimum medicines management within pain and palliative care services, which are provided in accordance with relevant professional, ethical, legal, and locally agreed policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
  • Provide a direct clinical pharmacy service to Teesside Hospice 1 session (4 hours) per week.
  • Provide specialist pharmacist advice, guidance, and information on treatment choices across the multidisciplinary teams in pain, palliative care, and Teesside Hospice.
  • Attend and actively participate in specialist ward rounds, clinic settings, and other patient reviews.
  • Provide education and training across pharmacy and the multidisciplinary teams within pain and palliative care.

After you complete this four and a half days of training, you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses dependent upon your role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3, 5, and 7.

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy within a hospital setting
  • Experience of providing directorate level pharmacist services budgetary reports, drug usage reviews
  • Developments of protocols and policies
  • Experience of developing strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals
  • Experience of leading and contributing to relevant research, audit, and service improvement projects
  • Experience of involvement in multidisciplinary service development

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate clinical qualification
  • Pharmacist independent prescribing accreditation or actively working towards qualification
  • Evidence of CPD and ongoing education

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice
  • Involvement in development of evidence-based clinical guidelines, policies, and protocols
  • Strong knowledge of medicines information resources
