Job Overview

The pharmacy team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to join our Pain and Palliative Care team as a fixed-term part-time contract. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our progress towards advanced level practice for pharmacists.

Main Duties
  • Lead, deliver, and evaluate clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services across the specialist pain and palliative care teams.
  • Ensure optimum medicines management within pain and palliative care services, adhering to relevant professional, ethical, legal, and locally agreed policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
  • Provide a direct clinical pharmacy service to Teesside Hospice, one session (four hours) per week.
  • Offer specialist pharmacist advice, guidance, and information on treatment choices across the multidisciplinary teams in pain, palliative care, and Teesside Hospice.
  • Attend and actively participate in specialist ward rounds, clinic settings, and other patient reviews.
  • Provide education and training across pharmacy and the multidisciplinary teams within pain and palliative care.

After completing the four-and-a-half-day training, you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, including in-house courses and leadership apprenticeships at levels 3, 5, and 7.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy within a hospital setting, including:

  • Providing directorate-level pharmacist services, including budgetary reports and drug usage reviews.
  • Developing protocols and policies.
  • Developing strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals.
  • Leading and contributing to relevant research, audit, and service improvement projects.
  • Involvement in multidisciplinary service development.

Desirable criteria include staff leadership and management experience, experience in mentorship and training, and teaching experience in clinical and classroom settings.

The successful candidate will hold a Master's Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent, be a Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and have a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate clinical qualification. They will also have Pharmacist independent prescribing accreditation or be actively working towards qualification, with evidence of CPD and ongoing education.

Desirable criteria include relevant postgraduate clinical qualification, membership with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), and working towards RPS advanced clinical practice or consultancy frameworks.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of medicines information resources and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice. They will also be involved in the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines, policies, and protocols.

Membership of regional, national, or international specialist interest groups relevant to the field of practice is also desirable.
