Job Description:

Quantinuum is seeking a highly motivated and talented Optics Engineering Intern to join our team in Golden Valley, MN. As a key member of our optics engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and optimizing optical systems for our quantum computing applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Laser Setup and Optimization: Design and implement laser systems for various quantum computing applications.
  • Optical Component Testing: Test and characterize optical components to ensure high-quality performance.
  • Optical and Optomechanical Assembly Design: Design and assemble optical and optomechanical systems for quantum computing applications.
  • Monitoring and Automation: Develop and implement monitoring and automation systems for optical systems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with scientists and engineers to integrate optics engineering with quantum computing research.
Requirements:
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in engineering, optics, or physics.
  • Graduation Date: Graduating after December 2024.
  • U.S. Person: Must be a U.S. person (defined as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or green card holder, or a worker granted asylum or refugee status).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering/Physics Background: Individuals pursuing engineering or physics graduate programs are preferred.
  • Optics Experience: Experience with theoretical and practical aspects of imaging and laser optics, including micro-optics.
  • Programming Skills: Experience with scientific programming languages or optical simulation tools such as Matlab, Python, COMSOL, or similar.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills for cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
  • Design Experience: Experience with optical design programs such as Code V, Zemax, Lighttools, FRED, or similar.
  • Mechanical Design: Experience with mechanical design programs such as Solid Works.
  • Commitment: Commitment to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
