**Instrument Development Research Associate**

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrument Development Research Associate to join our team at The University of Manchester. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking timely instrument development work on modern array spectrophotometers, in both spectral and retrieval modes.

The role involves supporting the smooth running of the existing ultraviolet radiation and ozone instrument suite at our surface atmospheric radiation monitoring site, delivering quality assured data to international databases, and augmenting data from new instruments into existing protocols and processes.

The successful candidate will work closely with our project's senior scientist and may also liaise with DEFRA, monitoring site staff, database managers, and international bodies that determine operating and reporting procedures for the data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Familiarity with spectroradiometry and DOAS techniques, and calibration of radiometric instruments would be a strong advantage.
  • The ability to be flexible with working hours, occasionally, is desirable to enable vital tasks to be completed within the desired timeframe.
  • A willingness to undertake short visits to other sites is required, and there may be the opportunity to attend international instrument intercomparisons.

What We Offer:

The Department of Earth and Environmental Science is committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for promoting diversity in careers in the STEMM subjects. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, especially those historically underrepresented in academia, and appointment will be made on merit.

Our University is positive about flexible working.
