Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Porter Operative to join our team at Serco. As a key member of our environmental services team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide a comprehensive and efficient portering service, ensuring the safe transportation of patients, staff, and equipment.
  • Operate tow tractors and other equipment to collect and transport waste and supplies.
  • Support the provision of adequate supplies of fluids to wards and departments.
  • Collect and transfer refuse, including clinical waste and special waste.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with the Porter Patient Ambassador and management to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Perform duties as identified by the Porter Patient Ambassador and management.
  • Meet performance targets and achieve agreed standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure safe working practices.
  • Report any issues or defects with equipment or the environment.

Requirements:

  • This is a physically demanding role, requiring manual handling and mobility throughout the working day.
  • NVQ or equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to read, write, and converse clearly in English.
  • Basic awareness of health and safety working practices.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital or service environment.
  • Customer service skills, including clear verbal communication.
  • Understanding of patient care, infection control, and safety.
  • IT literacy to support innovation.
