Cell Engineering Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cell Engineering Specialist to join our team at SRG in Cambridge, UK. The successful candidate will have a salary of £15.80 per hour, working 37.5 hours per week, with a contract duration of 12 months.
About the RoleThis is an exciting opportunity for a graduate in a biochemistry related degree looking for their first role in the industry. With 0-2 years industry experience required, you will support the delivery of R&D projects, contributing to the development of new mammalian expression hosts and vector systems for the expression of complex therapeutic proteins.
Key Responsibilities:- Contribute to the delivery of new mammalian expression hosts and vector systems for the expression of complex therapeutic proteins.
- Engineer mammalian cell lines using techniques such as random integration, targeted integration, and gene editing (e.g. CRISPR-based systems).
- Generate mammalian expression vectors using state-of-the-art assembly techniques.
- Characterise edited cell lines using assays such as NGS, ddPCR, qPCR, and flow cytometry, as well as cell culture techniques such as shake flask and bioreactor.
- Collate, analyse, evaluate, and sign-off data to produce high-quality information and traceable records under the direction of the project lead.
- Present results in written and oral reports.
- Work closely with other groups within R&D to deliver solutions or improvements in recombinant protein expression.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant academic literature in the field of cell engineering and expression technologies.
- BSc/MSc Degree in Life Sciences, Science, or Molecular Biology.
- Practical experience in an industrial or academic setting is desirable.
- Strong technical background in molecular biology (electrophoresis, PCR, vector construction) and cell culture (preferably mammalian cells) with a focus on developing or manipulating mammalian expression systems.
- Demonstrate strong technical skills, scientific execution, and data analysis.
- A proactive attitude towards working and solving challenging problems.
- Good working knowledge of statistics and expertise in design.
- Experience in cell line engineering, ideally with CRISPR-based systems, would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with synthetic biology technologies would be desirable.
