About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Graduate Civil Engineer to join our team at National Grid Electricity Distribution. As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in the operation and maintenance of our 132kV electricity network, comprising overhead lines, underground cables, and substations.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Organising and monitoring individual tasks to ensure timely completion.
  • Minimising risk to the security of the distribution network.
  • Identifying training needs of team members and providing training in civil activities.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in performance and implementing or recommending changes.

You will be based at one of our Project Teams offices, but as the majority of work is carried out on site, a significant proportion of your time will be spent on site across the whole of the dedicated distribution licence area.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical skills and work on high-profile projects that will have a significant impact on the UK's energy infrastructure.

Our Graduate Programme

As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will be part of our 18-month graduate programme, which will provide you with a tailored development pathway to support your growth and development. You will attend in-person and virtual development sessions throughout your programme to equip you with the essential skills required to succeed in your role.

You will also have access to 121 coaching and a mentor from a previous cohort to help you transition from campus to corporate life.

What You'll Need to Apply

To be eligible for this role, you will need to have a minimum 2:2 in an Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Business Administration, Mathematics, Sciences, or Data Sciences degree discipline. You will also need to have a full valid UK driving license that allows you to drive in the UK.

Due to the amount of travel to our site locations, you will need to be flexible and able to travel within the role and throughout your rotations as required.

Location

This role is based in Derby, offering flexible hybrid working, where possible.

What You'll Get in Return

We are proud to offer a graduate starting salary of £34,895. You will also receive a £2,000 bonus once you join and start on the programme, as well as a £2,400 payment on successful completion of the programme.
