Deputy Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Children in Care

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to join our team as a Deputy Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Children in Care. As a key member of our safeguarding leadership team, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of health and social care across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Deputising for the Designated Nurse/Professional as appropriate to ensure delivery of safeguarding functions.
  • Providing support, expertise, and advice to the safeguarding leadership team in overseeing delivery of ICB statutory safeguarding functions and undertaking statutory reviews.
  • Presenting findings of reviews to the ICB and NHS England, as well as other relevant partners, ensuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Being a contact point for statutory partners (Local Authorities and the Police).
  • Attending meetings across safeguarding partnership arrangements representing the ICB.
  • Managing agreed local and system-wide work areas, working with other deputy and designated professionals.
  • Supporting Specialist Safeguarding Practitioners in their statutory delivery of the safeguarding agenda.
  • Working with Heads of Safeguarding to oversee delivery of safeguarding in commissioned Providers.
  • Delivering an integrated approach to safeguarding with statutory partners at place.
  • Aligning to regional and national NHSE work streams for safeguarding, embedding quality practice standards.
  • Continually assessing and escalating any risk in relation to safeguarding arrangements.
  • Supporting effective reporting into the ICB Place Based Assurance meetings and ICB Quality Committee.
  • Contributing to an annual safeguarding report and regular assurance as required.
  • Working with and supporting preparation within local health services for regulatory body inspections of safeguarding.
  • Being a visible leader in the provision of quality safeguarding arrangements.
  • Providing safeguarding supervision across the health economy.
  • Ensuring population health is understood and integral in the delivery of our safeguarding statutory functions.

  • Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB senior leadership teams.
  • Regional colleagues within NHSE/I, including Safeguarding Leads.
  • Leaders across Lancashire and South Cumbria LAs, NHS, local authorities, and other third sector organisations.
  • Director of Safeguarding.
  • Deputy Director of Safeguarding.
  • Heads of Safeguarding.
  • Deputy Designated Nurses/Professionals.
  • Designated Dr and Named GPs across the ICB.
  • Named Nurses in Provider Organisations.
  • Safeguarding Adult Boards.
  • Corporate Parenting Boards.
  • Regional and National networks/communities of practice.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Significant experience of safeguarding leadership and multi-agency working.
  • Track record of managing staff and improving internal service delivery.
  • Exposure and involvement in CSPR/DHR process and delivering and embedding learning.
Outcome Delivery

We are seeking a candidate who can:

  • Evidence of achieving evidence-based improved outcomes for children.
  • History of delivering service improvement in how services respond to safeguarding.
Audit and Assurance

We require a candidate who has:

  • Conducted assurance and accountability of NHS commissioned services.
  • Evidence of using multiple approaches to assure safeguarding activity.
Qualifications

Nursing Qualification is essential.
