Senior Geophysicist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Senior Geophysicist to join our team at the Atomic Weapons Establishment. This exciting opportunity involves working on the Nuclear Treaty Verification programme, supporting AWE's national nuclear security role.

In this role, you will work closely with the UK Government to ensure the technical verification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Your primary responsibilities will include analysing data, carrying out research, and developing solutions to safeguard our monitoring facilities from seismic noise.

You will be part of a talented team that advises the UK Government on policy development and legal challenges related to the CTBT. To succeed in this position, you must have a strong understanding of physical/mathematical sciences and engineering principles.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to present complex information to technical peers, management, and external stakeholders. Proficiency in computer programming languages, experience with Unix-like operating systems, and expertise in managing geophysical data sets are also essential.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree or higher in a physical/mathematical science, or engineering

  • Extensive experience of technical project management and delivery
