Job Summary:

Venn Group is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Civil Litigation to join a Public Sector Organisation in the Midlands area. This is a hybrid working opportunity that offers a competitive daily rate between £500-£550 per day Umbrella, depending on experience.

About the Role:

The ideal candidate will have prior experience working within Local Government and a broad working understanding of Civil Litigation, as well as previous management experience. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Management: Acting as an integral part of the Management Team, contributing to the strategic management and development of the department.
  • Team Leadership: Managing a team of Solicitors and Paralegals who specialize in Civil Litigation and Personal Injury matters.
  • Expert Advice: Providing specialist advice and guidance on legal matters, including Civil Litigation and other areas of law when required.
  • Caseload Management: Managing a complex caseload of Civil Litigation matters, including attending courts, inquests, public inquiries, and tribunals, undertaking advocacy and representing the Council.
  • Training and Development: Supporting and supervising Trainee Solicitors and Solicitor Apprentices during placements within the department.
  • Negotiations and Discussions: Representing clients in negotiations and discussions with third parties in matters relevant to Civil Litigation.
  • Supplier Management: Instructing and managing suppliers of external legal services, such as Solicitors and Barristers.
  • Reporting and Representation: Preparing reports for, and attending Cabinet, Committees, and Sub-Committees as required.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Civil Litigation, previous management experience, and a broad working understanding of Local Government. A competitive daily rate between £500-£550 per day Umbrella is offered for this position, dependent on experience.
