Asbestos Compliance Specialist

The University of Bristol Law School is seeking an experienced Asbestos Compliance Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with all asbestos regulations and implementing an enhanced asbestos management plan across our estate.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support the implementation of an asbestos management plan, overseeing day-to-day contractor management and coordinating with Campus Division for seamless project handovers.

  2. Conduct compliance training and toolbox talks for the direct labour force, enhancing awareness and safety in compliance testing.

  3. Contribute to quarterly contractor meetings to review KPIs, health and safety incidents, financial matters, and project updates.

  4. Monitor and analyse compliance documentation, audits, and asbestos register data to help determine remedial actions.

  5. Act as a specialist contact for asbestos management, providing stakeholders with detailed guidance on complex legislation and policy changes.

  6. Develop and improve the University's asbestos register, helping to manage both digital and paper-based reporting systems.

Requirements:
  1. Certification in asbestos management (e.g., BOHS P402-P404) and substantial experience in asbestos management, including licensed removal, remediation, and waste management.

  2. Demonstrated experience in contributing to a digital asbestos register (Micad) and proficiency in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

  3. A proven ability to drive change in asbestos compliance practices, ideally in a large, complex estate or similar environment.

  4. Strong experience in conducting risk assessments, developing method statements, and auditing contractor work to ensure regulatory compliance.

  5. Exceptional communication skills and the capability to provide clear guidance to project managers and stakeholders regarding asbestos regulations and safe work practices.

The salary for this position is £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
