Job Description

The primary objective of this role is to oversee and direct site-based personnel in their daily activities to ensure the successful completion of projects as outlined by the client. This position will support the Site Managers in driving service delivery, which will be recognized by the client, and ensure that key performance targets and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Leadership: Work closely with the Site Manager on all operational activities, ensuring seamless coordination and effective communication.
  • Project Planning and Execution: Plan and supervise the work of the Projects team and any subcontractors to ensure that projects are completed to a defined standard, within agreed time and budget.
  • Collaboration and Liaison: Proactively liaise with Project Engineers to prioritize work fronts, ensuring efficient resource allocation and optimal project outcomes.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant HSE legislation, regulations, and company policies, promoting a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Performance Management: Work with the Planning Engineer and Site Manager to ensure sufficient and deliverable work fronts are available at all times, and that individual performance is consistently monitored and improved.
  • Knowledge Sharing and Development: Ensure a clear succession plan is in place, and that direct reports receive regular training and mentorship to enhance their skills and experience.
  • Leadership and Coaching: Consistently promote high standards through personal example, understanding the company vision and values, and the expectations of the team.
  • Team Management: Manage and coach individual performance, with the ability to manage a variety of cross-functional team members.
  • Compliance and Training: Ensure working compliance to company policies, Electrical Safety Rules, and Mechanical Safety Rules on site, and that personnel are trained to Approved Person (AP) level in relation to Electrical Safety Rules (ESR) and Isolation Safety Rules (ISR) where applicable.
  • Risk Management: Promote and maintain safety, follow established work practices, and control environmental impacts, while complying with legislative responsibilities.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Carry out day-to-day line management responsibilities for Projects craft persons, including holidays, training, performance, and timesheets.
  • Site Delivery: Responsible for the daily delivery of site-based activities as per the Programme.
  • Communication and Reporting: Actively participate in Daily Site Briefings, ensure correct permits are in place, and associated documentation is completed to a high standard.
  • Productivity and Efficiency: Ensure a high standard of productivity is realized on site activities, with efficient planning of labor, plant, and materials.
  • Performance Indicators: Ensure adequate requirements are in place to deliver with zero incidents, on time, with zero defects, and within customer compliance targets.
  • Support and Delegation: Support the Construction Manager in day-to-day activities, achieve adequate understanding of the role to deputize when required.
  • Risk Assessments and Method Statements: Create any required Risk Assessments and Method Statements, ensuring suitable revision and review is applied pre- and post-job completion.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive towards a 'right first-time' vision, continued job review, and lessons learned application.
  • Client Relationships: Build strong client relationships, ensuring all weekly and monthly internal and external deadlines are met, and when asked, prepare detailed reports to substantiate the figures.
  • Performance Metrics: Work with the Planning Engineer to ensure performance indicators are created, shared, and utilized to drive performance.

To be considered for this position, you will have at least 2-3 years of previous experience in a similar level role, ideally within an engineering or civils environment, and an excellent working knowledge of the water industry would be beneficial. Awareness of NEC3 Construction & Engineering Contracts, as well as an electrical or mechanical bias, are also essential for the role. Travel to various sites throughout the country is required, so a valid UK driving license is essential for the position.
