Clinical Microbiologist

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Biomedical Scientist to join our team.
About the RoleWe are looking for a talented individual to lead our Clinical Microbiology Department, providing expert advice and guidance to clinicians on the interpretation of clinical microbiology results. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading ward rounds and clinical discussion meetings, as well as taking an active role in infection prevention and control.
Key Responsibilities- Scientific Leadership: Provide expert advice and guidance to clinicians on the interpretation of clinical microbiology results.
- Leadership and Management: Lead ward rounds and clinical discussion meetings, and take an active role in infection prevention and control.
- Quality and Medico-Legal Requirements: Ensure all quality and medico-legal requirements are fulfilled, including accreditation to national standards.
- Research and Development: Take the scientific lead in the Clinical Microbiology Department on research and development, according to established rules and guidelines.
- Training and Education: Provide scientific, technical, and clinical teaching and training relevant to clinical microbiology to students, laboratory, and clinical staff.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to short, medium, and long-term planning strategies affecting service delivery of microbiology and infection prevention.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clinical microbiology, with experience in leading teams and providing expert advice and guidance. They will also have excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
