About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Senior Project Officer - Community Engagement. This is a part-time position, working 21 hours per week, with a focus on strengthening links between communities and the council in Birmingham, supporting and growing our Birmingham Community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and grow the existing network of Community Reporters, including in-person meetings, communication by email, text message, and phone.
  • Scope opportunities for the gathered lived experience evidence to be mobilized in Birmingham, building relationships with Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Combined Authority, and other stakeholders.
  • Link Community Reporters with other opportunities to be involved in economic justice work, both within the Equality Trust and with external partners.
  • Attend Economic Justice Alliance bi-monthly open meetings and monthly advisory group meetings.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and facilitate training sessions.
  • Evaluate the project and work with Co-Executive Directors to write funder reports.
Requirements
  • Proven history of community engagement and capacity building with diverse ethnic, socio-economic, age groups, and disability community groups in Birmingham.
  • Experience of providing one-to-one support to people who have been disempowered.
  • Experience of developing and sustaining projects with limited supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, manage project budgets, and deliver projects to tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of the impact of structural inequalities on people and communities.
  • Strong understanding of economic and social issues in Birmingham and the West Midlands, within the context of the UK as a whole.
