Job Description

The Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London seeks a highly skilled Technician to join its ACE Prototyping and Manufacturing Workshop Team. The successful candidate will provide essential support to the workshop, ensuring the smooth operation of our state-of-the-art facilities.

The postholder will be responsible for manufacturing components from various materials to a high level of accuracy, operating manual machines and CNC equipment. They will also provide technical support, advice, and demonstration to workshop users of all abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture components from a variety of materials to a high level of accuracy.
  • Provide technical support, advice, and demonstration to workshop users.
  • Monitor and assist with activities carried out in the workshop, ensuring a high standard of health and safety practices.
  • Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain the workshop facilities.
  • Provide induction and supervision to workshop users, ensuring compliance with workshop procedures.

Requirements:

  • Education to at least BTEC HNC or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship-training scheme.
  • Proven experience in working at a multi-discipline workshop, preferably within a teaching environment.
  • Use of traditional engineering machines and hand tools.
  • Use of CADCAM software.
  • Use of CNC, 3D printing, and Laser cutter equipment.
